Music Ministry at St. Mary of the Assumption Church provides music leadership for all parish liturgies, including Masses, weddings, funerals and prayer and reconciliation services. Parishioners are invited to share their musical talents with the rest of the community through our Music Ministry. Music Ministry consists of the Traditional Choir at 10:30 Mass on Sunday morning and individual Cantors at the other weekend Masses.
Cantors primarily lead the assembly in the singing of the psalms during the 5:15pm Saturday and 8:00 am Sunday Masses. When a choir is not present, cantors will lead the congregation during all songs. Auditions are required, and training is available on an individual basis.
It has been said, "he who sings prays twice". That is what the traditional choir does. They convey to the parish family spiritual words and prayer in song. The Traditional Choir sings at the 10:30 am Mass every week. This choir also sings at the Christmas Eve midnight Mass Celebration. They will prelude the Mass with carols beginning at 11:30 p.m. This is an adult choir and all those who enjoy singing are welcome. Requirements include a love of music, a desire to sing and the ability to make a commitment to the group. The choir meets for practice every Wednesday evening from 6:00 pm till 7:00 pm in the chapel.
